About Us: Helping Addicts For 45 Years
The Paëtzold Centre provides residential 'in-patient' substance dependency treatment for adult males aged 19 and older. The duration of primary treatment is 90 days. The Centre provides services to clients whose addictive issues have severely disrupted their lives, some of whom are also dual-diagnosed.
The key aim for our treatment program is the therapeutic management of readjustment to a drug- and alcohol-free lifestyle, through training in core skills applicable to 'relapse prevention'.
Our central approach to treatment is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), delivered via a research-based treatment curriculum: the New Direction Program. The program also includes a combination of problem-focused and emotion-focused forms of therapy, such as Arts and expressive therapies. Our centre also provides a recovery skills program with electives, which is integrated into the main 90-day program. We also offer an aftercare package to ease the crucial transition after graduation from the 90-day Rehabilitation Service. The aftercare program is a relapse prevention-based service, designed to assist participants in obtaining accommodation and maintaining employment.
History (TOP)
Captain Bill Leslie of the Salvation Army realized that an escape from the addict's familiar environment is a key to ending the cycle of drug and alcohol abuse. What was needed was a place to get away from "the stinking whirlpool of booze, rat-infested housing, and dubious friends who were only too willing to help a man down."
In 1961, Captain Leslie's dream was realized and he along with a number of former addicts set up camp on an isolated tract of land 25 kilometres north of Mission and began building a place of new beginnings with used and damaged materials donated by local contractors. The following year, 1962, the Centre was launched.
In 2000, mass renovations on the then-titled Miracle Valley commenced, funded by the generous donations of Mrs. Cordula Paëtzold and other generous donors. Today, the Paëtzold Centre continues to meet the needs of men caught in the cycle of addiction.
